Over
the past eight years, we've attracted some of the best volunteers in British Columbia.
Our volunteers all worked hard, had a great time, and they're already signing
up to join us again for the 2008 race season. Volunteering is a great way to gain
valuable experience, make new connections, and experience the thrill of adventure
racing, firsthand. We would love to have you as a part of our team this year!
Bring your friend too!
As we
are organizing three high-caliber races this year, we will need the help of even
more enthusiastic volunteers. If you would like to volunteer for one - or all
four! - of our events this year, please fill out the on-line registration or call
1.877.976.6632, if you have any additional questions.
All
volunteers for the adventure races will receive a Mind Over Mountain Adventure
Race T-shirt, entry to our infamous post-race party plus a delicious dinner. Come
and experience the excitement that comes from volunteering at such an incredible
event!
Check

Checkpoint Marshals are located at various points along
the course. Duties for this position include setting up the checkpoint, recording
the teams as they pass through, keeping an eye out for any racers in trouble and
if necessary and reporting anything needed to the safety team or race central.
All checkpoints have at least two people so you won't be alone.
Remote
Check Point Marshall This job is similar to the Check Point Marshall,
but it is in the wilderness and you will have to hike in and out. Traffic
Control Marshall Traffic Control Marshals are positioned at certain points
where the course crosses an area with traffic. Your job is to control the traffic
for the safety of the racers and cheer the racers along. Racer

morning. Race central staff are there to check in racers in the morning, handle
all timekeeping duties, and keeping race central organized. Retail

The attendant will look after the retail tent, handle all sales, and keep the
area looking sharp. We also give each racer and volunteer an item, usually a t-shirt,
which they will pick up from the retail tent before each race. It is a fun position
and you get to meet a lot of the racers and volunteers participating in the race.
Refreshment Attendant The
refreshment tent is located at race central at the finish line area. You will
be responsible for setting up the booth and keeping it stocked with a variety
of refreshments that includes fruit, bagels, chocolate, and water. We want to
make sure we rehydrate and refuel those tired racers after they cross the finish
line! Course Setup [Thursday
and Friday] We setup race central and registration the day before the
event and we always need extra help getting everything organized. If you want
to be STAR volunteer and want to help us make everything look great, then this
job is for you! Transition

stage. The Results Coordinator will enter all the racer times when a stage is
completed and sort them accordingly. Strong knowledge of Excel is required for
the Results Coordinator. Banquet

the races getting busy, an assistant is need to help coordinate the banquet events
on the day of the race so that everything flows smoothly. Your main duties include
helping with the overall setup of the banquet and coordinating the awards ceremony.

the course. They are responsible for the transition team for their stage, coordinating
the timing, and being in constant contact with the medics and volunteers at checkpoints

Aid Personnel The medical team is a very
important part of adventure racing. They are there for any emergency that may
arise. Medical teams are strategically positioned in various location throughout
the course in order to have the best accessibility for a quick response to any
area on the course for any emergency. If you have any first aid, CPR, or Wilderness
first aid, and are interested in helping out, this could be the position for you.
Qualified medics are also needed for at transition checkpoints to help out racers
if needed. As the Course Sweeper
you will ride or run the course prior to the race to make sure all the course
markings are still in place. We may also get you to sweep the course following
the last racer to make sure we don't leave anyone out in woods. You must be in
good shape and have a good sense of direction. Local trail knowledge is a definite
asset.
